Hello!  I'm Anna Hart.

I started Trudge Road after years of professional experience led me to an epiphany- that I should turn what I'm good at, what I get excited about into my own thing.  I love working with people one-on-one or in a small group to bring their projects to life.  Being an independent freelancer lets me be versatile- and allows me to customize my services based on my clients' needs and goals.

Whether it's coaching an author through their writing process, line editing literary fiction, producing an indie, or developmentally editing a horror novel, I'm here for it.

The Origin Story

I'm originally from the Northern Virginia area and graduated from the College of William and Mary with a Bachelor's degree in English.  For several years after, I worked for a Fortune 500 international logistics company in both operations and account management.

Though I had a successful career in logistics and had grown significantly as a professional, I wanted to get back to my roots in the language arts.   While still working full-time, I attended the Career Switcher program at Old Dominion University, through which I earned my license to teach high school English.

Two weeks after leaving my corporate job, I was standing in a high school English classroom.  I taught for two years in a Virginia Beach alternative school, then for two years outside Richmond, Virginia.  After relocating to the Atlanta, Georgia area, I taught until COVID shut everything down.

Filming

Along with the rest of the world, I was abruptly in limbo.  During that first year of quarantine, I was approached by a local independent film director to read a screenplay.  He had written it specifically to be filmed under COVID conditions, and after I edited the script with him, he asked me to join the team as the film's producer.

Over the next two years, we navigated a series of challenges to make this micro-budget movie a reality- itself a story for another day.  We wrapped filming, and the movie is currently in post-production.

Quarantine also brought me some other ad hoc writing and editing opportunities- and these, along with my experience as a producer, fueled my desire to pursue a creative profession full-time.  As much as I loved teaching, I decided to take a chance on myself.  Founding Trudge Road was inspired by the idea of striking out on my own and forging a new path.

My seemingly disparate career experiences have armed me with a unique skillset qualifying me to work with a variety of clients.  My flexibility as a freelancer gives me the freedom to tailor what I can offer to meet the specific needs of my clients.
